DIOMEDE
After the Trojan war, Diomede helped his grandfather, Eneo regain the kingdom of Caledonia, Etolia found in the central part of Greece. As Eneo (Literal Greek translation: Oinveùs - man of wine) was the first mortal to be given a plant vine as a gift from his grandfather, Dionisis out of gratitude he handed it down to his grandson Diomede.
Diomede’s further travels in the South of Italy, Arpi, Brindisi, Canosa, Benevento, all cities that note him as founder, indicate as well the journey of this vine from East to West. Greek pioneers would have named Italy Enotria – that is the land of wine.
