..... between myth and reality .....
CALIDONIO
The legend tells of Eneo, grandson to Dionysus and grandfather to Diomede, while sacrificing to the gods on Olympus, forgot the bid to the goddess Artemis (Diana). This offence sent a terrible boar against the people of Calledone (Etolia), subjecting them to a never ending bloody raid by the unstoppable beast. Meleagro, Diomede’s uncle, intervened, managing to kill the fierce wild boar and removed the tusks as proof of the greatness of the predator. This trophy was celebrated as a genuine relic of the "venerated Arcadia". The legend describes the tusks as having the circumference of not less than three palms. Diomede kept one of the tusks for Benevento while other cities he founded were the "palladio" – a statue of Minerva which the Trojans considered sacred. The myth of the foundation of the hidden symbol has most probably multiple meanings.
